Dear sisters and brothers, followers of Radić,
I owe you an apology for writing so late, but I have a good reason: I was waiting for the outcome of the main election assembly of HSS, held today, January 14, 2017, in Zagreb.
Krešo Beljak has been re-elected party president. He was the only name on the ballot, having suspended every other candidate for the post. He received 524 votes, and 83 ballots were spoiled, a number that shows how strong the opposition to him is among the members.
As you may know, things in the party have been unsettled lately. This election, however, has shown that Krešo Beljak has the majority on his side. With five members in the Croatian Parliament, the party may yet pull back from the brink of obscurity.
Our news here in Canada is that we now have a website: Hrvatska seljačka stranka u Kanadi.ca (Croatian Peasant Party in Canada). I’m told that with a special password we will all be able to post our own articles in Croatian. The site is run by the Vancouver branch, and we look forward to hearing more from them.
You may have heard about some misunderstandings over our hall in Schumacher. It seems everything has been settled to everyone’s satisfaction, thank God!
This is the season of the branches’ annual meetings. I will let you know about any changes in branch leadership in my next circular.
