Dear sisters and brothers, followers of Radić,
Once again we find ourselves in the holy season of Advent, full of hope for better days ahead.
Back home, the Croatian Peasant Party, now led by its new president, Krešo Beljak, is finding its feet in the Croatian Parliament with mixed success. HSS is officially in a coalition with the SDP, yet it is supporting Andrej Plenković’s HDZ government through its first 100 days. Strange, but true.
Here in Canada there is little news. It is the season of Christmas parties, and everything fits right in with the holiday spirit: Christmas lights, gift-giving, visits with friends and celebrations. Our membership is holding steady, but as in past years, fewer young people are joining. There are many reasons for this, the main one being that news now reaches everyone instantly online. People simply feel less need to get together and belong to an organization like ours.
Yet our purpose has not changed and remains as strong as ever: to keep Croatian national awareness alive far from home. We are here, and we will be here as long as there are Croats in Canada.
My wife Marija and I wish you a merry Christmas. May the newborn Christ bring you and your families good health, happiness and every blessing.
Yours,
Ivan Vukelić, President
