Welcome to our website!

In the early twentieth century the Croatian people embraced the great ideals of the Radić brothers and joined the branches of the HPSS in large numbers. These branches promoted education, through which national awareness and self-confidence grew. Croatian cooperatives, the Croatian Sokol and other organizations were founded.

Our ancestors brought these noble principles to Canada and officially founded HSS Ontario as early as 1933. In the following years they continued their work across Canada, promoting patriotism and the sovereignty of the Croatian state.

Professor Ivica Šola Visits Vancouver

On November 19, 2017, as part of the celebrations marking the 45th anniversary of the Society of Friends of Matica hrvatska in Vancouver, members of the HSS “Ivan Gundulić” branch prepared a lunch for their guests, Professor Ivica Šola and his wife, Marija.

In three evening lectures, Mr. Šola took on some thought-provoking topics:

  1. Lustration
  2. The media: a pillar of propaganda that protects entrenched structures
  3. Education reform: a serious sleight of hand

With extraordinary ease, Mr. Šola described some of the difficulties, unique to Croatia, that the country faces today. Despite all the problems, his words were wrapped in optimism and gave a realistic picture of how a normal life in the homeland can be achieved.

We at HSS Vancouver were truly grateful for his visit.

Professor and Mrs. Šola, you will always be welcome among your friends at HSS Vancouver.

Bepo.
