With these few lines I don’t wish to weigh anyone down with the anger I feel toward “Western” culture and progress. I simply want to express my grief for a man who enriched us throughout his life, and with his final act as well.
I pray to dear God that his example will carry a message to every Croat, and to every Croatian politician: a Croat need not flatter anyone or grovel before anyone, but should proudly and confidently do what is good for the Homeland. Above all in our dealings with the “Old Culture,” we would do well to remember that old motto, supposedly from Dubrovnik: “Be kind to all, be candid with none.” Let us remind ourselves that we are dealing with what someone has already called “an old, immoral, worn-out prostitute.”
And to you, Slobodan, our hero: may God grant you the justice this world denied you.
Bepo.
